The figure is naked with drapery wrapped around her arms and back, standing on a square base. The base is inscribed Campagne (Sculpteur) and with title Phryne incised to front. Height 86.2 cm. NB: In classical Greek mythology Phryne was a famous courtesan who was extraordinarily beautiful. Phryne cleverly used her unparalleled beauty as a defence against accusations of profanity in the court of the Areopagus. She unveiled her naked body, by parting her robe, and the judges so mesmerized by her exquisite features acquitted her.
