The Estate of a Gentleman was collected through 60 years of travel, encompassing many grand tours of the world. Consequently, the estate is wide-ranging, from Chinese and European furniture, Moralizing and Surrealist art, and a wonderful collection of clocks and watches including some genuine museum pieces that were all kept in working order.

The Estate is accompanied by the Frà Professor Richard Divall AO OBE collection. Divall was a celebrated conductor with a truly vast and wide-ranging output; conducting ballets, masses and more than 150 full operas. He was also known for his academic and charitable work. This sale contains some of the finest pieces of his collection; some excellent pieces of art, furniture, silver and pewter-ware as well as Divall’s own baby grand piano. The most significant piece however, is a large and extravagant ivory conductor’s baton. It originally belonged to the iconic French maestro Claude Debussy, and was great gifted by a student of Debussy’s to Divall.
